We had a big day driving when we left Kakadu, we had to travel back to Darwin again to finally pick up the rest of the mail we were waiting on (Aust. Post is not always very reliable!) then head all the way down to Katherine and out the Gorge to camp the night so we could do our planned early morning Gorge tour. When we arrived for the tour the next morning, it turned out they made a mistake with the date when booking our tour, and the tours were now all booked up and they couldn’t fit us in, the earliest tour they could get us on was one for the following day. Well it all worked very well for us as they gave us a free nights camping and we took advantage of a day off relaxing by the pool made the most of the free washing machines.
We headed of the following morning on a 3 Gorge boat tour. They way it works is that you once you get to the end of the first gorge you have to get out and walk around to the next gorge and jump in another boat. The gorge’s are beautiful and at the end of the 3rd gorge you jump out and walk up to a really nice swimming hole with a waterfall where we enjoyed a refreshing dip.
Most years by this time you can hire canoes or swim in all of Katherine Gorge, or as it is now called Nitmuluk Gorge, but due to the big wet season they still have not given it the all clear that there are no salt water crocs who visiting the area.
Note: we can't do slide shows anymore - for some reason we can't get them to embed in our blog any longer and we don't have the time to sort out the issue so from now on we will only add a couple of photos
