After leaving The Grotto we began our journey along the Gibb River Road. We let our tyre pressure right down and drove very steady along the road to do our best to ensure we don’t get any flat tyres or sustain any other damage to our vehicle as a lot of other travels tend to do on this road. From our observation the reason for their damage is simply because their tyre pressure is too high and they drive too fast on this road.
We set up camp for the first night on top of a hill overlooking the Pentecost River. It was a magically 360 degree view from up here, with an impressive escarpment on the Eastern side of us and the Pentecost River on the western side. There was plenty of entertainment from up here, with a bird’s eye view of the river crossing, we watched a couple of Frenchmen who decided to attempt the river crossing at too fast a speed get water in their engine and get stuck in the middle of the crossing – they were pulled out by some other travellers and eventually got their car going again. We also saw an unfortunate traveller who was going way too fast along the road come in contact with a herd of cows crossing the road and upon hitting his brakes ended up flipping his camper trailer - luckily no one was hurt. Aidan and Cody went for a walk down the river and enjoyed an afternoon skimming rocks.
