Lake Argyle - WA

Crossing the border

We travelled over the border crossing, having to dispose of our honey and a couple of left over vegetables that we still had in our possession at the quarantine station, and from there we headed onto Lake Argyle. We went up and had a look from the lookout over the dam wall and out over the very impressive Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in Australia. We read a couple of different statements in regards to the size of the dam, one said it was 50 times of the size of Sydney Harbour and the other claimed it was 80 times the size. Either way, it is one very big lake and without a doubt extremely beautiful being surrounded by magnificent red cliffs.  We found a great little spot called Dead Horse Springs on the banks of the lake to camp for the night, where we watched the freshwater crocs swimming around and the Archer fish shooting their food.
