Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River

We left Perth and didn’t head too far the first day, finding a great little place to camp at Point Herron on Harvey Inlet just under Mandurah. Aidan and Cody enjoyed a play on the white sandy beach of the inlet and we had 28 parrots walking around our campsite during the day and some sort of marsupial, which we think was bandicoot walking around our site at night.

The next day we visited Bunbury which we thought was a really nice town. It is slightly smaller than Orange in population but much better shops and is a seaside town with a nice Marina area as well. Here you can actually snorkel with dolphins in the wild rather than just feed them, but that season doesn’t begin until late October.

From there we headed to Busselton where we walked the length of the 2km jetty. Busselton is known for its jetty as it is the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere.

We then drove down through some beautiful countryside to Margaret River. We were amazed at the number of Winery signs (there are over 80 wineries in Margaret River), we didn’t visit any wineries as Jaime and Shell had done enough wine tasting at our Hester’s place in Perth! We did visit a cheese factory along the way and stocked up on some beautiful cheeses before arriving at the quaint little town of Margaret River. Before finding our campsite at Conto’s campground in the Leewin-Naturaliste National Park we drove out to Prevelly to check out the famous Margaret River surf break.
